Better Information
Better Information
At the risk of severely dating myself, most days I am amazed and feel spoiled. The reason that I feel spoiled is that I feel the internet allows me almost immediate access to whatever information that I am looking for and gives me access to better information than was available in the past. It really doesn’t matter if I’m trying to figure out how to change the spark plugs on my Honda CRV, how to spell a word, or just trying to figure out something about the civil war, odds are I will find what I’m looking for on the internet.
Before the advent of the internet and before I used it, I spent a lot of time at the local library. I still do believe that the library is fantastic and well worth the time you spend there. Books in hard copy are great and fantastic to read. Libraries also offer a wide variety from movies, magazines, local and world newspapers and the latest in fiction and non fiction books and paperbacks.
Sometimes, I have to admit that I’m stumped and can’t locate what I’m looking for on the internet, but I also have to admit that the same thing has happened at the library. What I find the most fascinating is when a question or something of interest pops into my thinking, I can get immediate answers via the internet. Instant gratification.
So far everything that I have stated about the internet is positive, but we all have to admit that there are some negative things also. The one that initially comes to mind is that not everything you read or see on the internet is true. Some of it is just people’s opinions which can be misleading and some of it is just plain untrue. With that being said I still requires the internet searcher to use some common sense and do your due diligence. If something seems just too good to be true, well maybe it is. Some investigation will tell you for sure.
Trust Your Better Information
Just as you trust getting your news from what you consider a reliable source whether that is your local television station, the nightly news of your choice or the newspaper of your choice, there will be sources on the internet that you trust also. If its news items you are searching, the major networks are on the internet and easily recognized for you to get better information on news. For general information on certain topics it may require you to do additional investigation if you are unsure of its validity.
Technology Is Giving Us Better Information
We have to be realistic and realize that mobile phones and the internet are making some of the things we relied upon in the past obsolete. Newspapers are struggling to stay in business because it is so easy and convenient to get our daily news on the internet. Because of my age I sometimes struggle with new technology and wonder if it necessary. In all honesty I have to admit that I don’t always have the latest and greatest of everything, but I have to admit that technology is constantly giving us better information.
